Exposing Angels of Light

God is light and in Him is no darkness at all (1John 1:5).

So many people seem to be walking around in darkness. This post is not aimed at Christians, but please hear me out. I believe the Lord wants to equip believers with ammo this month of October as we interact with a world obsessed with celebrating a darkness called Halloween. I’m aware I may ruffle some feathers with this post, but I’ve never been one to shy away from speaking out. Here goes. Call me brave or stupid, but I’m diving in!

While a college student and brand new believer in the early 1980’s, I dressed in costume and stood in line waiting to get into a campus bar to party on Halloween. Some folks came by witnessing. In my eagerness, I said, “Oh, I’m a Christian, too.” I will always recall the sternness in that guy’s voice asking me, “Then what are you doing in that line?” The conviction of the Holy Spirit pierced my heart like an arrow hitting its mark. It never occurred again.

Dark-Angel-

We know that satan comes as an angel of light. What kind of light?

Deceiving light and trickery, also known as black light.

There is white light and black light.

Let’s start with white or visible light. The visible light spectrum is made up of seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet light. The light spectrum is a metaphor for God or goodness. The number seven (zayin) in Jewish tradition is regarded as the number of completion, wholeness, blessing and rest. Jesus is the completion of man or our spiritual perfection.

Creative_Wallpaper_Color_spectrum_028498_Since light travels in waves, it is made up of all of the colors of the spectrum. You can see this when light is bent through the use of a prism. When light hits an object, three things can happen: it can be absorbed, it can be reflected or transmitted (shine right through). When white light hits an object, usually some of the light’s energy is absorbed by the object. Any part of the spectrum (energy) that is not used by the object is reflected back. The portion of the spectrum that is reflected back is the color that you actually see. For example, the reason that green plants are green is that chlorophyll absorbs light in the blue and red and reflects light in the green and yellow.

So black is actually when all the light energy is absorbed and no light is being reflected back. So it isn’t really the absence of color, it’s the absence of any reflected light. White is actually when all of the light is reflected and none of it is absorbed. So it is still made up of all of the colors of the spectrum. See, Jesus told us that He is the Light of the world and that we are to BE salt and light in the generation in which we live. Most Christians know and attempt to practice this principle by absorbing the light of God and reflecting it back to Him through our behaviors that exhibit a changed lifestyle. But if we are recreated beings made in God’s image, carrying the light of God within us … how can we compromise and play with darkness as if it’s a game?

When one associates with darkness, one associates with those through whom no light is being reflected back to God. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and dabble in darkness (by playing with the fire of Halloween), we lie and do not practice the truth (1John 1:6). For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, we are told in Ephesians 5:8 and 5:11. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.

In Matthew 6:23 we read, “But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! (Matt 6:23)  Therefore, take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness (Luke 11:35). God is saying, clear your eyes so they can behold the light and receive God’s light which can live inside of you. The more light you have inside of you, the more light you can see outside of you. When you have a bright light inside you from the Holy Spirit, you are enlightened and able to SEE a level of physical light that was previously invisible (known as seeing in the Spirit).

God is brilliant, both metaphorically and literally speaking. Scripture tells us He is so bright we cannot look at Him. He is a shining light at a certain frequency, but that is a discussion for another day.

Stay with me, please.

So why do so many people celebrate Halloween? Simply because they are ignorant of its roots or maybe they know and think their compromise won’t matter. They see it as innocent fun. Surely it was innocent at some level. And the light shines in the darkness but the darkness did not comprehend it (John 1:5). The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don’t know what makes them stumble (Proverbs 4:19).

If you celebrate Halloween, I am not calling you wicked. Proverbs 4:19 just means there is something about Halloween you don’t see.

Halloween has it’s origins in Samhain, an ancient gaelic festival which marked the end of harvest season and beginning of winter. Spirits were believed to have easier access to our world on this day, so bonfires were used for their protective powers from the spirits. Divination rituals were common as were the wearing of costumes to ward off the spirits. Currently, Celtic Neopagans & Wiccans observe Samhein, which speaks for itself. Why would a Christian celebrate a day Wiccan’s do?

For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you (Is 60:2).Then Jesus spoke to them (John 8:12) again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

We know that Jesus came to open our eyes, in order to turn us from darkness to light, and from the power of satan to God, that we may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Him (Acts 26:18). My prayer for all dabblers is that the Lord of Light enlighten you to the deeper truth of the darkness  you are touching and inadvertantly exposing your children to. I pray that you, too would cross the line from dabbling in darkness into living in the light in all areas of your life.

PS: Sending out kudo’s and deep admiration to my friends who courageously stand by their convictions to not participate in this event, despite societal pressure, criticism and misunderstanding. You are the plumbline and standard bearers of right living for the upcoming generation of light bearers. Soldier on strong ones!

  1. Speaking the truth and telling it like it is…that is an act of love and I hope your readers accept it that way. Very good explanation on the differences (both natural and supernatural) between light and darkness.

  2. Liked the clarity of which I read and understood in this article. Have no intention of plucking out my bad eye in the natural, but every intention of doing so if it will make a difference in the supernatural realm.
