You Are the Greatest Prophet!

greatest prophet is you HW 2017 meme

Did my headline cause you to pause?

Good.

When I heard first this statement, it made me think. Then it resonated as I realized – it’s true.

“But I’m not a prophet,” you may say. No, most likely, you’re not.

However, we speak words over ourselves all day, every day. Words that are either positive or negative, faith filled or fear filled.

God’s Word instructs us that “death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21) and that we are to “choose life, so that you and your children may live.” (Deut. 30:19)

This means everything we say, either leads to life or to death and whichever we choose, we will receive. If we choose to speak in a manner that is harsh, hurtful, condemning, gossipy or dishonest, we are choosing death. But, if we choose to speak words that are encouraging, peaceful, healing, kind, lovely, and uplifting, then we are choosing life. We find this to be true in Proverbs 12:18, “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

Proverbs. 4:24 reminds us, “Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.”

BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR SELF-TALK?

The Lord has been hammering this principle into me this summer. Okay, so Jesus doesn’t hammer but Holy Spirit is emphasizing, confirming and repeating this topic to me concerning my thought life and self-talk.

So I’ll keep this post brief out of respect for your busy schedule. The greatest prophet over your life is you. Speak kindly to yourself. Speak truth to yourself.

Speak God’s truth to yourself.

Recognize every thought that is contrary to truth, see it as a lie and pull it down. Apply the 2 Corinthians 10:5 principle to it – casting down every thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing it into obedience to Christ.

You don’t have to have a prophetic gift to have power in your words. If you are a believer in Jesus, a child of God made in the image of God, you have death and life in the power of your words. All people carry power in their words, whether saved or not.

Prophesy truth over yourself and those you love.

Then you will be wise and your words will bring healing. Amen!

  1. It’s true when you say that “you don’t have to be prophetic in order to prophesy”. As you said, Life and death are in the power of the tongue so we must speak life if we have two choices in what way we ought to speak.

    Blessings!
