Is the clamor of loud, angry protest demonstrations getting to you? How about the evening news or the major headlines insisting you click for the latest, urgent update?
Clamor: a loud and confused noise, especially that of people shouting vehemently, loudly and insistently. Synonyms are racket, uproar, tumult, commotion, brouhaha and my favorite … hullabaloo.
A woman of God I respect recently issued a word from the Lord urging Christians to not be moved by the clamor. The word clamor resonated with me. Wordsmiths LOVE the perfect word. God said, “Do not listen to the clamor of the flesh and those who holler with no hope. Do not give heed to the outbursts of those who react out of bitterness and rebellion.” Read Wanda Alger’s entire word.
Amidst the noise, Holy Spirit has reminded me how crucial it is that we make time to quiet ourselves and listen to the Father’s heartbeat. No mental ascent (yes, I need to do that) or procrastinating.
You may know the Israel Houghton song, To Worship You I Live.
Away away from the noise
alone with you
away, away to hear your voice … and meet with you… nothing else matters
my one desire is … to worship you I live
to worship you I live… I live to worship you.
Practical tips for navigating tumultuous world events
The purpose of this blog is to inspire, encourage and strengthen my readers in spiritual matters. Helping you maintain your relationship with the living God is my first priority. Politics, the news media, social protests in America and global world events are strategizing to pull our gaze away from the One with the answers. The Prince of Peace Himself beckons us near. Imagine a flask of essential oil in His hand, but instead of earthly oil, it is liquid peace. He’s wants to saturate your mind in peace. He wants to carry each heavy thing making you anxious, fearful, stressed and worried.
How I keep my heart and mind at peace:
- I limit my exposure to TV news to 30-45 minutes daily. That’s it. I take in major stories, restricting my exposure to all the talking heads. This includes online articles.
- I spend time with God every day, in His Word.
- I worship often – in the car, home and at work. Listening to worship music at a secular workplace is not always possible, but when I worked outside my home, I listened on my commute and at lunch. Now as a writer, lyrics distract me, so I play Christian instrumental music when I write to set a godly atmosphere as I create.
- Pray often. Develop ongoing conversation with God as a habit, all through the day.
Garbage in, garbage out (GIGO) in the computer field refers to the fact that since computers operate by logical processes, they will unquestioningly put out flawed output if flawed or nonsensical data is entered.
Wouldn’t the same concept hold true for our minds? Binge on a steady diet of news analysis, add in images of violence to generate fear (garbage in), couple with a lack of truth from no Bible or prayer time, then top it off with a cherry: a busy schedule forcing out any quiet time with God. Like an ice cream sundae, you’ve got a perfect recipe for a chilled heart, unable to handle the stresses of life and world events. Frazzled emotions, fear, stress and anxiety come out of us. You have the idea.
The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high;
He will fill Zion with justice and righteousness,
and He will be the stability of your times,
abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge;
the fear of the Lord is Zion’s treasure (Isaiah 33:5-6 ESV)
Get away from the noise today and make time to be with the One whom your soul loves.
Jesus’s peace awaits you.

very nicely done with providing a definition first and then offering suggestions to avoid the noise (I like the garbage in-garbage out analogy too!)
