Singing Makes Me Happy

Anyone else out there wondering how to pray in the midst of overwhelming current events?

My first post for 2014 centered on going from a misery mindset form of Christianity to a hope filled Christian mindset. God said this is not a spirit of terror year, but a year for Psalm 67. It was based on an encouraging article you can read here Elijah List.

Woman praising JesusAuthors Bob Hartley and Michael Sullivant related that God told them that 2014 is the year for Psalm 67:

“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make His face to shine upon us, that Your way may be known on earth, Your saving power among all nations. Let the people’s praise You, O God; let all the people’s praise you! Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for You judge the people’s with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Let the people’s praise You, O God; let all the people’s praise You! The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, shall bless us. God shall bless us; let all the ends of the earth fear Him!”

The Message version is even happier (if that is possible):

“God, mark us with grace and blessing! Smile! The whole country will see how you work, all the godless nations see how you save. God! Let people thank and enjoy you. Let all people thank and enjoy you. Let all far-flung people become happy and shout their happiness because You judge them fair and square, you tend the far-flung people’s. God! Let people thank and enjoy you. Let all people thank and enjoy you.  Earth, display your exuberance!

You mark us with blessing, O God, our God. You mark us with blessing, O God. Earth’s four corners—honor him!”

So … in light of severe Christian persecution (a/k/a genocide) and other excruciating current events in the Middle East, American Christians are supposed to smile and sing worship songs, ignoring the suffering of others? What kind of pollyanna, ‘stick your head in the sand’ thinking is that, Kate?

I am so glad you asked.

Psalm 149 tells us that worship is the privilege of kings, that it binds our enemies hands with chains of iron. Praise flowing from the mouth of a believer is a two edged sword, strong and fierce when flowing from love laced lips.

We know from Psalm 8:2 that praise silences the enemy (through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger).

Could it possibly be that our omniscient God was advising us through this recent prophetic word to use praise and worship as a primary spiritual weapon in a time of increasing darkness …. as a tool to push it back ….. while simultaneously energizing our spirit man? As a specific 2014 prayer strategy? To set our gaze on Him … and in doing so, magnifying Him …. for evil is temporary and fleeting in comparison to WHO HE IS!

I don’t know about you, but singing makes me happy!

Singing my heart out to God from gratitude for all He has done for me … leads to prayers of intercession for those suffering across the globe. We MUST be happy intercessors. Why? Because the books of Revelation and Matthew say that things will get darker before they improve. God has things under control. I believe our job is to pray (or sing) back to Him Psalm 67, reminding Him that He has promised that “the godless nations will see how He saves.”

I truly believe that our Lord Jesus was prophetically handing us our prayer strategy for the events He foreknew and planned to arrive this year. So get your praise on and let’s send our spiritual foes packing. Let the darkness tremble!
