Be a Voice Against Lawlessness

Lawless: not regulated by or restrained by law.

Synonyms: Anarchy, unruly, disorderly, lawbreaking.

The lawless society of the frontier – the Old West is an example of lone Sheriff’s attempting to bring “law and order” in an era where horseback villians robbed Wells Fargo coaches carrying gold. Violent protests in 2020 on the streets of major U.S. cities brought fresh images to our television screens of lawless rioters destroying property, breaking windows and looting.

God’s Word tells us to be a voice against lawlessness.

Let’s look at Chapter 2 of Second Thessalonians from the NLT:

Events Prior to the Lord’s Second Coming

2 Now, dear brothers and sisters, let us clarify some things about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and how we will be gathered to meet him. Don’t be so easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don’t believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation, or a letter supposedly from us. Don’t be fooled by what they say. For that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness (man of sin) is revealed—the one who brings destruction. He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God.

Don’t you remember that I told you about all this when I was with you? And you know what is holding him back, for he can be revealed only when his time comes. For this lawlessness is already at work secretly, and it will remain secret until the one who is holding it back steps out of the way. Then the man of lawlessness will be revealed, but the Lord Jesus will slay him with the breath of his mouth and destroy him by the splendor of his coming.

This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. 10 He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them. 11 So God will cause them to be greatly deceived, and they will believe these lies. 12 Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth.

Believers Should Stand Firm

13 As for us, we can’t help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first (from the very beginning) to experience salvation—a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth. 14 He called you to salvation when we told you the Good News; now you can share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 15 With all these things in mind, dear brothers and sisters, stand firm and keep a strong grip on the teaching we passed on to you both in person and by letter.

16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, 17 comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.

The point I want to emphasize from this meaty chapter quoted above is not the Lord’s return to earth, rather verse six: “And now you know what is restraining (this man who is against God), that he may be revealed in his own time.”

According to Paul Keith Davis, it is the Holy Spirit with us, the collective Body of Christ that is restraining the manifestation of the spirit of lawlessness. Let us not be confused. There is a spirit of disorder operating in the earth and there is a physical man (call him the Anti Christ, Man of Perdition, Personification of Evil). I am referring to the spirit of disorder in today’s post, not the actual man himself. God alone decides the timing to reveal who the Man of Perdition is.

Why am I broaching this topic? Because an Executive Order signed in January of 2021 says that U.S. taxpayer dollars will be used to fund abortion worldwide. This is NOT OKAY with me and should not be acceptable to any professing follower of Christ. What should we do?

Pray! The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but they are mighty for the pulling down of spiritual strongholds. Our primary role as salt in the earth is to preserve, therefore we are to petition the Lord to do something about this taxpayer funded expansion of murder in the earth. It is an expansion of lawless behavior, actions that violate God’s law, rather than man’s law.

We can ask God to give lawmakers visions of hell or heaven. It’s okay to ask they be terrified into right behavior or caused to evaluate if their actions qualify them for heaven. I ask You to terrify them, Lord. Place the fear of the Lord in their conscience! Ask for the opening of their blind spirit eyes. Ask the Holy Spirit to convict them of their sin.

Brethren, DO NOT BE SILENT! Do not allow the explosion of evil intimidate you or overwhelm you into complacency.

We MUST be militant in the place of prayer! We are NOT those who fight in the streets. We war in the heavenlies. We war in our prayer rooms and are a force to be reckoned with! “A force to be reckoned with” is someone who is strong and cannot be ignored. Stand firm brethren.

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force (Matthew 11:12).
