Morning prayer thought: When a tragedy of violence occurs and we hear about it on the news, I often have the thought, “I don’t understand what they were thinking.”
At the end of 2024, the Spirit of God impressed upon me to “stop trying to understand evil. You’ll never understand it because you’re of Me. Evil has the sole intent – to kill, to steal life, health, and happiness, and to destroy all that is good.”
Instead of expending mental energy to understand a school shooter’s motivations, why not simply accept that this person opened a door in their life to darkness, the darkness came in, remained, and used them to carry out nefarious deeds?
Modern culture opposes naming things or people as demonic or evil. I recall that on January 29, 2002, in his first State of the Union address since the September 11 attacks, President George W. Bush described Iraq, Iran, and North Korea as an “axis of evil.” He aimed to identify the countries and bad actors who threatened the United States. History has shown that terrorism and terrorist groups have not waned but will continue into 2025.
My thoughts for your consideration are: Let’s agree with God. Simply accept an act as evil, name it as such, and respond by overcoming evil with good (Romans 12:21). Prayer is good.
Overcome evil with prayer for the injured; prayer for the grieving families and traumatized communities. We overcome evil with acts of goodness such as becoming a first responder, studying to become an EMT, paramedic, nurse, doctor. a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or soldier. Donating money, food or supplies is always a necessary act of kindness.

I expect the year 2025 to bring more violent headlines. However, I vow to stop myself from attempting to understand them.
My role and yours if you’ll join me is to pray Psalm 91 over my family, my community, and my nation asking for divine protection IN THE MIDST of it.
“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith” (1 John 5:4 NKJV).
Finally, let this thought from Romans chapter 12 direct us in the days to come: “Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.”
My prayer for my readers is Romans 12: 9-13 and that you fall more in love with Jesus every day. As we run to Him, He holds and soothes us, strengthening and fortifying us to continue our journey.
With Love, Kate

Thanks Kate, great thoughts! A lot of things in this world are past knowing. I just need to trust God knows what he’s doing and as His child I am cradled in His arms.
May God open the eyes of those who are spiritually blind to Truth, turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins.
