Nobody gets in to see the wizard. No way. No how.

In one of my favorite scenes from the Wizard of Oz, the blustery gatekeeper informs Dorothy and her homies, “But nobody can see the great Oz. Nobodies ever seen the great Oz.” In her innocence, Dorothy asks, “Then how do you know there is one?”
Many people today ask the same question about a God they have never seen.
John 20:29 NKJV tells us, “Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls (1 Peter 1:8-9 NIV).
These two scripture verses enlighten us to the blessing that awaits us for having faith in an invisible, triune God. But like Dorothy, how do you know there IS a God?
Sadly, some people know the Bible, yet have no personal relationship with Jesus. Therefore, the interpretation of what He is like is not always accurate. Or their understanding of Him is based on head knowledge versus an encounter of the heart kind.
See, the only reason that I believe in a God I have never seen is because Father God by His grace opened my spiritual eyes to recognize His son, Jesus. Jesus was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God (1 Peter 1:20-21).
To state my case one step further, the only reason I can know Father God and call Him my Abba is because Jesus revealed Him to me, in the same manner as described in John 14:7-11.
“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.”
The task before us as Christians is to live in such a way as to reveal to others (non-believers) this God that we have never seen, either.
Our responsibility is to demonstrate that God is real, rather than preach or explain Him. A more difficult task, surely but an attainable one if we are living in intimate communion with Him. He will spill over into our conversation because He fills our thoughts. His Word is the filter through which we process every event.
If you and I truly believe that Jesus is alive today, physically existing in another dimension but present, nonetheless in our hearts, by faith … then we WILL talk about Him with such adoration and affection, serve others with kindness, demonstrate His tender mercies and live our lives emulating Him as best we are able.
Yes, Dorothy … anyone can know the Great One. We just can’t get in to see Him.

I really like the photo you found of the characters in front of the door. Do you think the author of the book had God and heaven in mind when he envisioned that scene? It seems to be very similar based on how you developed the analogy in the blog post.
