In part one of His Song of Grace dream, I promised to dig deeper into the meaning of the dress and heels. This message is NOT exclusive to women, nor a message endorsing men to wear dresses and women’s shoes. God is reminding us to wear the character of the new man. He is referring to the hidden person of the heart, who we are on the inside, evident through our actions.
It’s a message to dress spiritually and put on the attributes of Christ.
To review, the dream communicates that as we hear Abba’s song unique to us, we will walk (heels) more carefully and mindfully through life, as opposed to living carelessly and spending our time on frivolous, selfish pursuits. We will live with intention, redeeming the time. It doesn’t mean we’ll always act serious; rather, we value that time is limited, so we won’t waste time in idleness.
WHY DID GOD SAY TO WEAR A DRESS?
Clothing in dreams primarily refers to God’s glory. It depicts the state of our relationship with God; it can also designate a change of our spiritual authority, the state of one’s heart, and a few other aspects. In this context, I believe the dress refers to putting on the glory of God based on Genesis 2:25, where Adam and Eve were naked in the garden, “and were unashamed.” They were unclothed, yet they were wearing the glory of God! It’s not explicitly stated, yet inferred.
Clothing of fig leaves and later tunics of animal skin were used to cover man’s nakedness because he disobeyed God’s command not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Man’s sin caused the need for clothing.
The dress is our choice to wear. Every day we choose to clothe ourselves in love and humility (Colossians 3:14, 1 Peter 5:5). After we are born again, our spirit is recreated in Christ Jesus, but it is our decision to put on the new nature in our thinking and behaviors.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO WEAR THE GLORY OF GOD?

I literally had no idea what this phrase meant. This is how God works with me. He gives me a dream that I have to research the meaning of. As I look up Scriptures, I find amazing treasure and come away excited about my new revelation. It’s so fun!
To wear the glory of God means to clothe ourselves with the spiritual attributes of Christ. “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ [that is, you have taken on His characteristics and values], (Galatians 3:27 AMP).
Ephesians 4 expounds further, “regarding your previous way of life, you put off your old self [completely discard your former nature], which is being corrupted through deceitful desires, and be continually renewed in the spirit of your mind [having a fresh, untarnished mental and spiritual attitude], and put on the new self [the regenerated and renewed nature], created in God’s image, in the righteousness and holiness of the truth.
Chapter 3 of the book of Colossians goes even further, explaining so beautifully in The Passion Translation, “Your crucifixion with Christ has severed the tie to this life, and now your true life is hidden away in God in Christ… Live as one who has died to every form of sexual sin and impurity. … (My Paraphrase) – It’s time to eliminate from your lives- anger, rage, hatred, cursing, filthy speech, and lying. Lay aside your old Adam-self with its masquerade and disguise.”
ROBE YOURSELF WITH THE VIRTUES OF GOD
“You are always and dearly loved by God!
So robe yourself with virtues of God, since you have been divinely chosen to be holy.
Be merciful as you endeavor to understand others, and be compassionate, showing kindness toward all.
Be gentle and humble, unoffendable in your patience with others.
Tolerate the weaknesses of those in the family of faith, forgiving one another in the same way you have been graciously forgiven by Jesus Christ. If you find fault with someone, release this same gift of forgiveness to them.
For love is supreme and must flow through each of these virtues.
Love becomes the mark of true maturity” (Colossians 3:3-14 TPT).
In Aramaic, the word ‘mark’ in 3:14 can be translated “the girdle of maturity.” That made me laugh aloud and tear up, to think that the language Jesus spoke in, Aramaic, actually references an article of clothing. It is a hidden gem buried in a footnote on page 546 of my TPT Bible for me to find about a clothing dream.
ARE YOU AVOIDING TIME WITH GOD?
Returning to Genesis 3:8, we see “they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.”
Thousands of years ago sinful man hid from the presence of God, causing God to call out to him to come near. God is still calling us near! He calls us near through His Word, through Christian music, spiritual dreams, the voice of others, and other ways. He tells us in Song of Solomon 2:13, “For now is the time to rise and come away with me.” My dream is repeating that same refrain, saying,

“Start your day with me, in my presence, so I can sing my song of grace to you personally.
Sit with me awhile so I can open your ears to my grace; so I can enlighten your eyes to understand my unmerited assistance available to you, my grace that you don’t deserve that is freely here for you.
Choose to die to your old nature and live as one who has been recreated in Me.
Choose to wear my glory, robing yourself in My character virtues.
I am whispering to you in the night and singing over you in your waking moments. I want to talk with you.”
Thank you for reading both segments. I’m interested in your thoughts or reactions.
What is Jesus saying to you in this season?
