Something very powerful happens when you put God’s Word to music.
Singing scriptural lyrics gets His Word deeper into your spirit and consciousness than simple recitation alone can. I don’t know how or why this happens, but it’s true.
There are times I may identify with a song discussing a struggle, but I prefer to sing to Him. That’s just my personal preference, which I’m not laying on you, just sharing my heart.
Today in Sunday service, we sang a song based on Isaiah 61. It’s not copyrighted yet, so I can’t share it publicly, but it was an anthem of sorts. It urged us out to proclaim the good news, heal the broken hearted, bind their wounds, comfort those who mourn and …. be like Jesus. This short You Tube clip above captures the idea.
It got me thinking. Everyday is an Isaiah 61 kind of day!
Every single day, I should be getting up with the mindset … who am I bringing heaven to today? After all, WE are the anointed body of Christ in the earth, His vessels of good through which the Holy Spirit brings heaven to earth … so who am I bringing heaven to today?
Whatever gifts we have been given – we are to use for His glory. Am I called to love my children well, reflecting the fruit of the Spirit? Then do it with single hearted devotion. Home-schooling moms: pray before you plan that lesson and be inspired by heaven. Lean into the Spirit within for fresh creativity and enthusiasm.
Are you working full or part time? Then as a marketplace minister, pray before work and allow the Spirit of God to be evident in your interactions. Have the courage to share a quick word of encouragement to a co-worker. Notice people. Be kind. Show compassion as you get your work done. Smile at people. They’ll wonder why you’re happy.
Whatever our spiritual gifts, whatever our role in this world – we are all called to use our gifts for the glory of God and the building of His kingdom. We aren’t to be hearers only, but doers of the gospel. I’m reminded of Jesus’ admonition in John 13:15, “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.”
So go have an Isaiah 61 kind of day – rebuild the waste places by sharing truth with someone. Restore broken places by building someone up with an encouraging word. Bring comfort to a sad heart by phoning or mailing out a card. Pray for someone. Just do it! You’ll feel His pleasure as you do and be so glad you did.
